Melodies of Bhupen Uzir

“Melodies of Bhupen Uzir” is an online musical competition instituted in 2025 as a vibrant initiative of the Bhupen Uzir Smriti Rakhya Samiti to nurture young talent and keep alive the musical legacy of Bhupen Uzir. Conceived as a prelude to the annual “Hiya Bhora Xhubhokamonare” celebration, the competition is organized each year in the weeks leading up to the commemorative function.

The competition is conducted in two categories—participants below 14 years of age and participants above 14 years—thereby encouraging both young budding artists and emerging performers to engage with the rich musical heritage associated with Bhupen Uzir’s compositions and style. The initiative provides an accessible digital platform for aspiring singers to showcase their talent from different parts of Assam and beyond.

In each category, three winners are selected—Winner, First Runner-Up, and Second Runner-Up. These awardees are formally felicitated during the “Hiya Bhora Xhubhokamonare” function in the presence of renowned artists and distinguished members of the music and film fraternity. A special highlight of the programme is that the First Prize winners of both categories are given the prestigious opportunity to perform live on stage during the main event, offering them valuable exposure and encouragement at an early stage of their artistic journey.

In its inaugural year, “Melodies of Bhupen Uzir” 2025 witnessed an overwhelming response, with nearly 100 participants taking part, marking the event as a grand success in its very first edition. In Category ‘A’, comprising participants below 14 years of age, the first prize was awarded to Jigyasa Kashyap, followed by Pragya Konwar as second prize winner and Shruti Madhujya securing the third position. In Category ‘B’, for participants above 14 years, Taneesha Saikia won the first prize, while Ratan Konwar and Junak Nibir Kashyap received the second and third prizes respectively. All winners were presented with cash awards, certificates, and trophies in recognition of their achievement.
